Interview with graphic designer Rezo K. Part 2
This is the second part of the interview with Rezo K who is graphic designer, illustrator and developer of several websites.
What makes a good web graphic designer?
Creativity does. Most people can become skilled in working with web design software, but only a handful of them are good designers. It's the ability to fuse your tallents, your knowledge and original ideas with technical skills that makes you stand out. Achieve that, and everyone will want you to work with them.
Being innovative and able to learn new things fast is essential as well. Web design trends and software use to create it change and evolve so rapidly, that those, who refuse to change and improve will be left behind in no time.
In your opinion, which program is the best to create vector graphics?
I would vote for AI (Adobe Illustrator). Lots of designers prefer Corel Draw. It's the matter of personal preferences. Both these programs are great. When these both compete it is we, users, who get the best of it.
What are your recomendations for those, who wish to master web design?
Read and do tutorials... I'm not joking. Do tutorials, read lots of books and articles. Once you've become skilled in working with software, try to create something of your own. At first, it will be hard, but that's fundamental. You will not always be able to rely on tutorials and advice, graphic designer has to make his mind, his creativity to be his guide.
Do you enjoy being a vector designer?
I truly do. I am able to express myself by doing this work. Graphic vector design is a niche where one can use his tallents and skills to their full extent. I hardly imagine myself doing another job than being web designer.
What is your opinion of free vector galleries? Most people think that their ruin the business of microstock sites.
Speaking of free vector art sites ruining the business of selling vector graphics in photobank sites, I have to disagree. Microstock galleries have been growing rapidly during the past few years. No site that offers vectors for free download will ever match Shutterstock or iStockPhoto. Another important thing is that these galleries often cooperate with stock sites and refer their visitors to them.
Thank you for this great interview. Last words for visitors of our blog.
Be creative, be original. Always keep in mind, that it is not the technical skills that matter, but ones ability to see and do things in a different way.
Interview with graphic designer Rezo K. Part 1.
Rezo K has been interested in graphic design for more than 6 years already. He is a master of programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw. Rezo K is a succesful microstock contributor (specialises in vector art), creator and developer of several popular websites. Our team has decided to ask him some questions. Here is the interview:
Hello, Rezo. Tell us, how have you become interested in web design and vector graphics.
Hello, visitors of ........ I have always been in love with art, especially painting. I became interested in web graphics and design about 6-7 years ago, when I saw a topic about creation of gfx forum signatures. They looked great to me, so I installed photoshop and tried to create various images and manipulations myself. I have to admit, at first I wasn't trully succeful, but quite soon I got hold of it.
When was the first time you used your skills in graphic design to earn money?
Not so long ago, perhaps 3 years. In my opinion, most web designers make a crucial mistake when they start offering their services for money even though they still got lots to learn. Once you start working for money, not for pleasure, it becomes a way harder to progress and learn something new. In my case, quite a lot of people asked me to work, design something for them but I always refused until I felt like I have trully mastered web design.
You're a succesful microstock contributor. Tell us your opinion about this model. What is the future and perspectives of it?
It is hard to admit that as I get more than half of my curent income from stock sites, but this model has already seen it's best days. Biggest microstock sites have more than 10 million photographs and vector art in their galleries. It is becoming truly hard to create something new and sell it successfuly. Lots of great and tallented web designers work with Istock, Shutterstock and other photobanks these days. Because of that, competition is becoming quite harsh.
Who is your favourite vector graphics designer in microstock industry?
Anja Kaiser is my favourite. She doesn't create tons of vector images, but when she uploads something new it becomes an instant success. That's the way to do it I think. Quality is that matters in being succesfull, not the quantity.
What is the biggest amount you have earnt from one vector image?
Oh, I'm not the one who loves talking about their income achievements. But that's over 1000$.
